Supermicro Adds Server and Storage Systems Supporting EDSFF

EDSFF is the first industry-standard all-flash NVMe spec optimized for storage; it propels NVMe to the next level with higher density, improved manageability, and thermal efficiency. It builds on NVMe capabilities delivering 6 times more throughput and 7 times latency reduction over traditional flash storage. It works with both long (E1.L) and short (E1.S) drives and many drive manufacturers support EDSFF, giving customers broader storage options with up to one or a half petabyte density in 1U.

Black Hole Data Processing Storage

Back in April we did a piece on digital storage used for the imaging of the black hole event horizon of a black hole in a neighboring galaxy (M87), 55 million light-years away, including the Western Digital helium sealed HDDs used to capture data at the 8 radio telescopes that were analyzed by astronomers at MIT and the Max Planck institute (MPI) in Germany. Since then we were contacted by Supermicro about their servers and storage used in the processing of the event horizon data to create the images. What follows is some information about what we found out.
