Data. It’s everywhere and it’s growing. Accelerated adoption of rapidly developing technologies – including cloud computing, robotic automation, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, the internet of things (IoT) and 5G – are driving the data explosion. And data centers are at the forefront of this data growth.

Supermicro has launched a new line of servers specifically for hyperscalers.

According to a company statement, the new MegaDC servers have a reduced component count and optimized power distribution and backplane designs.

This article talks about a recent Red Hat Ceph Storage announcement for petabyte-scale object storage and a new COTS servers supporting open standards from Supermicro.  We also look at recent claims by Active Cypher on how conventional computers running quantum computer algorithms are endangering current encryption and look at general funding for international quantum computing startups.

Perhaps one of the most under-the-radar launches this week will be of the Supermicro MegaDC line. Make no mistake, this is a huge deal. Supermicro is adopting some of the more open compute style infrastructure and bringing it to the 19″ rack form factor.
