For this exercise, we are using our legacy Linux-Bench scripts which help us see cross-platform “least common denominator” results we have been using for years as well as several results from our updated Linux-Bench2 scripts. Starting with our 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable benchmarks, we are adding a number of our workload testing features to the mix as the next evolution of our platform.
In the early 2000s, energy experts sounded alarm bells. At the growth rate of data centres at that time, the world would soon be giving most of its electricity to keep these technology hubs running. But this hasn’t happened. Despite a massive explosion in data centre numbers over the past two decades, the predictions of doom didn’t materialise. Today, data centres consume around 2% of the planet’s power – which is still an astronomical amount, but not everything.
Super Micro Computer, Inc. announced new solutions that are SAP HANA-certified for VMware hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI). Being certified for SAP HANA and VMware are one big benefit, the Supermicro servers are powered by second generation Intel Xeon Scalable CPUS and support Intel Optane persistent memory. This added performance is ideal for those that wish to leverage HCI for their SAP workloads.
Server component and system maker Supermicro is known for being out in front when any X86 processor comes to market and often shoots the gap between ODMs, who have a relatively small number of large customers, and OEMs, who have a large number of relatively small customers.
The trials will run in Brazil, Germany, Spain and the UK this year and involve Altiostar, Gigatera Communications, Intel, Supermicro and Xilinx.
Telefónica has given the competitive mobile infrastructure community another major boost by announcing plans to trial not just 4G but also 5G open RAN technology in Germany, Spain, the UK and Brazil this year.
The promise of fifth generation (5G) wireless networks has been dangled in front of businesses for years. Large IT vendors and mobile carriers have been promising next-generation solutions that are poised to enable dozens of new use cases that will transform the enterprise. Finally, at the end of 2019, some of the power of 5G began to unlock as carriers began offering service in select markets.
Data. It’s everywhere and it’s growing. Accelerated adoption of rapidly developing technologies – including cloud computing, robotic automation, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, the internet of things (IoT) and 5G – are driving the data explosion. And data centers are at the forefront of this data growth.
Supermicro has launched a new line of servers specifically for hyperscalers.
According to a company statement, the new MegaDC servers have a reduced component count and optimized power distribution and backplane designs.
