New form factors are massively disruptive to established ecosystems. They require changes at every turn. Fortunately, Supermicro already had a 1U server designed for Intel’s ruler form factor, so when EDSFF was finalized with very slight modifications, it didn’t take long for Supermicro to tweak the connectors and officially support EDSFF as well.
Supermicro updated its servers with the new Intel Xeon E-2200 Series for Servers. The company’s platforms from the Xeon E-2100 series can be updated to support the newest processor series with a BIOS upgrade.
LOS ANGELES — Nvidia claims it has achieved a breakthrough in edge supercomputing and is working with Ericsson to build what it describes as the “world’s first software defined 5G RAN (radio access network).”
Supermicro sent us their C621 chipset X11SPA-T motherboard, which does support the new Xeon W CPUs. You can also take into consideration the number of PCI-E slots you would like, in the case of this motherboard there is a PEX8747 chip that takes x16 lanes and outputs x32, so that we have a total of seven PCI-E slots.
Nvidia's EGX platform comes with frameworks and software development kits for a variety of verticals, including smart cities, manufacturing, healthcare and retail. The platform is supported by more than 20 validated servers from Dell Technologies, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Lenovo, QCT and Supermicro.
